Letter from Your Elected Official: Torey Danner

by | Aug 6, 2024 | Coroner Press Releases, Highlights, Letter from Elected Official, Newsroom

Bannock County,

I’d like to give you an update on the operations and goals of this office. First and foremost, in terms of evolution, I feel that we have done a great job of making our goals a reality.

Last year, I worked hard to find a solution to not having a way to identify and notify the Next-of-Kin of deceased individuals. I met with Idaho Senators and Representatives and explained the potential solution of using the driver’s license and ID cards to register Next-of-Kin while utilizing an existing database. This would allow us to find the families of those who passed in a timelier manner. Through legislation and the support of many, we were able to take my idea and make it a reality. Beginning in 2025, Idaho residents can register their Next-of-Kin when they renew an ID card or driver’s license.

We always strive to provide the best service we can for Bannock County; I believe a vital piece of our operation must be improved. We have the goal of building a morgue facility to better serve Bannock County. This is something we haven’t had previously. Building this resource into the Coroner’s Office allows us to be self-sufficient and sustainable while investing in Bannock County. My goal for this office has been to stop outsourcing our needs by using other facilities for morgue services. We were able to get the mobile morgue trailer, but that is only a short-term solution. We have been working hard to get to where we can provide the best long-term solution that will allow independent operation. I believe that when we rely on other resources to support the needs of this office, we lose control of cost, maintenance, and security, which, in turn, puts us in a vulnerable position that could potentially impact our ability to effectively serve Bannock County. The addition of a county-owned morgue will strengthen our foundation of self-sufficiency and sustainability while effectively maintaining our stride to provide the best we can for Bannock County.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or improvements that we can make to better serve you.

Sincerely,

Torey Danner
