Bannock County Courthouse opens new parking lot, ADA entrances

POCATELLO, Idaho – Bannock County is unveiling the recent improvements to the courthouse campus.

Since August 2024, the courthouse campus has been undergoing construction to enhance ADA access, increase parking availability, and improve the courthouse’s landscape. The project was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

“When we were delegating our ARPA dollars, I pushed for this project to improve the experience our patrons have when they visit our campus. I’m excited to see this finish and return our courthouse to normal operations,” said Commissioner Ernie Moser.

The block of North 6th Avenue between East Clark and Center Streets has recently reopened as a parking lot with over 20 spaces for patrons. The parking lot is one-way, with the entrance on East Clark Street and the exit onto Center Street. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to the signage and adhere to road safety.

The Elections Office added an ADA ramp to its main entrance to ensure easy access for voters during early voting periods. The courthouse’s ADA entrance was expanded, offering more space for patrons entering the building and shielding them from the weather while waiting in line.

The courthouse has also updated its security and weapons detection systems. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early to allow extra time for clearing security and to be patient with the new system. All patrons must remove any metal, magnetic, or electronic items from their person, including phones, keys, watches, and belts, before passing through the security entrance.

“We’re grateful to the public’s patience as well as our employees, who maintained a high level of service during the construction period,” Moser said.

All courthouse entrances, VIN inspections, and parking are open as usual. The temporary entrance on the courthouse’s north side is now closed to the public. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Friday, May 16, at noon.
