History
About

The Bannock County Wood Court originated with a legislative appropriation, championed by former Idaho State Representative JoAn Wood.  The program took on her name and thus became “Wood Court.” The appropriation funds a unique treatment court program that responds to those with both mental health issues and co-occurring substance use disorders. The Wood Court program filled a gap between mental health courts, which focus primarily on severe and persistent mental health issues, and drug courts, which focus on substance use disorders.  In essence, Wood Court is an amalgam of those two courts.

Participants in the Wood Court program are provided a diversion from prison. Moreover, the program accepts individuals who have been to prison and/or the retained jurisdiction program. Additionally, the Wood Court program accepts parolees, with approval from the parole board, as well as individuals who have failed other treatment courts.

The funds for the Wood Court program enable the provision of important additional services to its participants, including temporary transitional housing, financial management through a payee, allocations to the Bannock County Jail, and allocations to local services such as the Hope & Recovery program, which provides a safe environment for our participants to interact in the community. Additionally, the funds are used to pay for drug testing of the individuals. The Wood Court funding covers treatment, counseling, and case management services, all of which address the mental health and substance abuse issues of each participant. It also assists participants in managing their funds, calendars, employment, treatment, medical care, and other day-to-day concerns that arise.
