BANNOCK COUNTY, Idaho – A record number of Bannock County residents applied for the Property Tax Reduction (PTR) program in 2025, the Bannock County Assessor’s Office announced Monday.
More than 1,498 residents submitted applications this year, surpassing the previous high of 1,400 applicants in 2023.
“I’m so pleased to see more people taking advantage of this program each year,” said Bannock County Assessor Anita Hymas. “It was one of my goals from the beginning of my term to ensure everyone eligible for the program is receiving this benefit.”
The PTR program, formerly known as the “Circuit Breaker,” is designed to reduce property taxes by up to $1,500 for qualifying individuals. Eligible groups include seniors, widows and widowers, persons with recognized disabilities, disabled veterans, former POWs, and individuals who are blind. Applicants must have an annual income of $37,810 or less.
By offering property tax relief, the program aims to help residents on fixed incomes remain in their homes.
“We don’t yet know how many applicants will be approved, as the final determination is made by the Idaho State Tax Commission,” Hymas added. “But I’m hopeful that more people who truly need this assistance will receive it each year.”
Approved applicants will see the reduction reflected on their December 2025 property tax bill.
Applications for the PTR program are due annually on April 15, and residents must reapply each year. More information, including eligibility requirements and how to apply, is available at bannockcounty.gov/assessor.
